Treating Burns and Scalds on BC Worksites

Burns happen across BC industries: manufacturing, kitchens, electrical, chemical handling. Level 2 teaches you to assess depth and extent, cool safely, and protect against infection and shock.

Cooling

Cool running water for 10 to 20 minutes. No ice, no butter, no ointments.

Chemical burns

Brush off dry powder first, then flood with water continuously for at least 20 minutes.

Electrical burns

Make sure the power is off before touching the patient. Injuries can be much deeper than they look.

See shock for associated shock management.
