How the Intermediate First Aid Course Prepares You for Real BC Workplace Emergencies
The Intermediate First Aid curriculum is not abstract. Every skill it teaches maps directly to an emergency that happens on BC worksites weekly. Here are five realistic scenarios and the OFA Level 2 skills they pull on.
Scenario 1: Construction fall in Surrey
A labourer falls from a short ladder and lands on his back. Conscious, neck pain. Skills: scene safety, primary survey, spinal stabilisation, EMS handover.
Scenario 2: Manufacturing laceration in Burnaby
A worker catches his forearm on a sharp edge, heavy bleeding. Skills: direct pressure, tourniquet, shock recognition.
Scenario 3: Warehouse cardiac event in Richmond
A warehouse worker clutches her chest, pale and sweaty. Skills: cardiac response, positioning, oxygen therapy, CPR readiness, AED.
Scenario 4: Anaphylaxis on a Vancouver film set
Crew member eats something, wheezes, lips swelling. Skills: anaphylaxis response, EpiPen assistance, airway monitoring.
Scenario 5: Slip and fall in Coquitlam winter
Municipal worker slips on black ice, deformed wrist. Skills: fracture splinting, pain management, environmental care.
