OFA Level 2 vs Canadian Red Cross Standard First Aid: What is the Difference?

Students often ask whether a Canadian Red Cross Standard First Aid course counts for BC workplace requirements. Short answer: not on its own.

Red Cross Standard First Aid

Two-day course, nationally recognised, excellent foundational training. Widely accepted outside BC.

OFA Level 2 (Intermediate First Aid)

Two-day WorkSafeBC-specific course. Only this certification satisfies BC's Level 2 attendant requirement for moderate hazard workplaces. Includes skills Red Cross does not teach at the Standard level: oxygen therapy, BVM, airway adjuncts, tourniquets in depth, WorkSafeBC documentation.

Bottom line

If your BC workplace requires a Level 2 attendant, you need OFA Level 2. Red Cross certification will not satisfy WorkSafeBC. See what OFA Level 2 covers.
