Airway Management Techniques Every OFA Level 2 Attendant Must Know
Airway management is where Level 2 becomes visibly more clinical than Level 1. The course expects you to open an airway, use adjuncts and ventilate with a BVM.
Basic manoeuvres
- Head-tilt chin-lift for non-trauma patients
- Jaw thrust when spinal injury is suspected
- Recovery position for unresponsive but breathing patients
Adjuncts
OPAs size from the corner of the mouth to the angle of the jaw. NPAs are soft rubber, tolerated by semi-conscious patients.
BVM ventilation
Creating a proper mask seal takes real practice. Two-rescuer technique is far easier than one. See oxygen therapy.
