Oxygen Therapy for BC First Aid Attendants: What OFA Level 2 Teaches

Oxygen therapy is a Level 2 skill that Level 1 does not touch. Setting up the kit, choosing the right mask, and ventilating effectively are all testable on day two.

Flow rates

  • Nasal cannula: 1 to 6 LPM for mild respiratory distress
  • Non-rebreather mask: 10 to 15 LPM for moderate to severe distress
  • BVM: 15 LPM with reservoir, for patients not breathing adequately

Safety

No oil, no grease, no smoking near the cylinder. Keep it secured. Check pressure before every shift. See airway management and chest pain response.
