Anaphylaxis Response for OFA Level 2 Attendants

Anaphylaxis is a life-threatening allergic reaction. In BC workplaces, the most common triggers are food, insect stings, latex and medications.

Signs

  • Rapid-onset hives or rash
  • Swelling of lips, tongue, throat
  • Wheezing or stridor
  • Drop in blood pressure, collapse
  • Sense of impending doom

Response

  1. Help the patient administer their epinephrine auto-injector
  2. Lay the patient flat, raise legs if tolerated
  3. Oxygen
  4. Call EMS
  5. Be ready for CPR
