Fracture and Splinting Techniques Taught in the OFA Level 2 Course
Fractures are among the most common BC workplace injuries, especially in construction, manufacturing and forestry. Splinting in the position found is the core Level 2 skill.
Principles
- Immobilise the joint above and below
- Pad generously
- Check circulation, sensation and motor function before and after
- Never try to reduce a deformity in the field
Common splints
SAM splint (mouldable), rigid splints, traction splints for femur, slings for upper limb. See shock and lifting.
