Primary and Secondary Patient Survey: The OFA Level 2 Sequence

The primary and secondary survey is the spine of every Level 2 scenario. Master the sequence and the rest of the course falls into place.

Primary survey

  • Scene safe
  • Responsiveness (AVPU)
  • Airway
  • Breathing
  • Circulation and severe bleeding
  • Disability (consciousness, spinal)
  • Expose and examine for life-threats

Secondary survey

Head-to-toe check, vital signs, SAMPLE history (Signs, Allergies, Medications, Past history, Last meal, Events leading up).
