Spinal Injury Management: OFA Level 2 Scope of Practice

Spinal injury response is one of the clearest Level 2 upgrades from Level 1. It is a skill BC employers in construction, film and warehousing actively look for.

When to suspect

Falls from height, MVCs, diving injuries, head trauma, any unconscious patient from a high-energy mechanism.

Core skill: manual in-line stabilisation

Hold the head and neck still in the position found. Do not pull on traction. Direct the rest of the response while maintaining the hold. See safe moving and lifting.

Log roll

Three-person roll, with the person at the head calling the count. Useful for moving a patient off a hazard or placing a spine board.
