Stroke Recognition in the Workplace: The FAST Method

Stroke is a time-critical emergency. The faster it is recognised, the better the outcome, so the Level 2 course drills the FAST method until it is reflex.

FAST

  • Arm weakness
  • Speech difficulty
  • Time, note when symptoms started, call 911

BE-FAST adds

  • Balance problems
  • Eyes, sudden vision loss

Do not give food, drink or aspirin. Position comfortably, oxygen if trained, wait for EMS. See patient assessment.
